The territory of the municipality of Fabro, as the Val di Chiana, the Lower Pliocene to the first part of the Lower Pleistocene (between 2 and 1.8 million years ago), formed the backdrop of the ancient Tyrrhenian Sea. Witness to the presence of the sea in the territory are the numerous fossils that can be found strolling through the clays as gastropods, (buttock and turritella), bivalves (pecten, ostrea and venus), and scaphopods (Dentalium). The presence of clay and of marine origin crete washed away by erosion weathering resulted in the southeastern part of the municipality of Fabro a geomorphological phenomenon very interesting and fascinating: the badlands. These are large cracks in the soil interspersed with thin ridges and flat areas. Because these erosion valleys clay may appear poor in vegetation since evolving. The badlands landscape, in fact, is never equal to itself. Nevertheless, this environment is very charming and vital, dotted with small lawns, shrubs and thickets where he lives abundant wildlife.
