AS A RESULT OF OPERATIONAL DIFFICULTIES THIS WEATHER STATION CEASED OBSERVATIONS AND REPORTING AFTER 20 MARCH 2022. This weather station is located within the inner suburbs of the City of Birmingham, UK, approx 4km south of the city centre. It is sited on the flood plain of the River Rea on the edge of an extensive area of open parkland and woodland. The altitude of BSOWS is approx 118 metres above sea level. It is in a relatively sheltered position, leading to slightly elevated temperatures, although conversely it is subject to cold air drainage in the appropriate conditions leading to a lowering of particularly overnight temperature values. In reporting observations weather code and state of ground are generally omitted, being covered in weather comments. Visibility is moderate or better unless otherwise stated.
