The site is at 580' on a south facing slope at the southern edge of Edinburgh with the Pentland Hills (1600' asl) just a mile to the south. Instrumentation consists of traditional instruments in a Stevenson Screen, a 5 inch rain gauge (data to UKMO and SEPA) and thermometers to measure 20 cm soil temperature and grass minimum temperatures. Sunshine is measured by a RD Instromet recorder. A Davis VP2 AWS uploads readings 24/7. In January 2016 a solar radiation sensor was added to the AWS.
